Sometimes it's a worthwhile endeavor to simplify things into black and white options. There is freedom in the simplicity and it makes it clear if you're making the right choice or not.
So what does this have to do with fitness?

As we start a new calendar year, I’m once again reminded of how we seem to lose our collective mind the first week of January. We’ve all slowed down a little to enjoy the holidays with friends and family. We maybe had a little too much to eat, too much wine, one too many Christmas cookies, and everything goes out the window.
There is a growing movement around body positivity in our culture but just as much as it's a good thing it also has a potential downside. This is only because (like most things) everyone needs to be on the same page with the terms we use. What does it mean to be positive about our bodies? What does it mean to be healthy?
The moniker of "The Caring Gym" is not something that we chose for ourselves but it's something that we've heard over and over again about the place we've created here in downtown Nampa. We aren't known as that by accident either. We truly care about each and every person that comes through our doors.
I got swept up in workouts and my job and forgot to write for a week. My wife’s work has already started to ramp up, so she’s doing her workouts at different times than I am, usually.
When her work schedule got nuts in the past, we were like ships in the night for a couple of months. I’d WANT to help her but honestly didn’t know how. She used to do all the grocery shopping and laundry and I just kinda tried to stay out of the way for a few months. I felt dumb asking her “Are you ok? How can I help?” and her always just saying “I’m fine.”
Chili is a fluid recipe. Use this as a base, and get creative from here. If you don't like it as spicy, try green chilies instead of the jalapeños. Or add some heat with habeneros. This is also a good recipe to make in large batches and freeze. Divide into 8oz wide-mouth mason jars for easy single servings.
I went to play pickup basketball on Tuesday night. I’ve missed a lot of this year because–well, CrossFit. But I’ve been feeling good, and my coach told me to add in a sport or easy cardio. I’m not jogging, so I’m back at Tuesday night basketball.
I went out of the gate hard. I got a couple of laughs out of the guys in the first few minutes: “Hey, pace yourself, kid. Did you forget your age?” But I was able to keep it up until we broke for "halftime".
