There it was in my driveway, staring me in the face. The bike rack that has been sitting in my garage never used for the last two years. Too intimidated to install, because why does it have so many straps? And of course that instruction manual is long gone. So there is sat collecting dust for all those years.
We start almost everyone with the Level 1 version of the workout. Level 1 is perfect for people that just want to live a healthy life and have no desire to really push themselves to... well... then next level. Level 1 workouts are no joke. Many people still have to scale those workouts quite a bit. A person could do these workouts for the rest of their life and be incredibly fit.
The NOk to 5K program is for EVERYONE! So, stop screaming, let go of the person next to you, and sign up already!
Classes will consist of three main segments, all of which are customizable and scalable for any and all levels and abilities:

Each and every movement the human body does has an ideal start and finish position. These positions are stable and static. They require full range about the joints and are ideal for performing the task at hand.
Fitness is your ability to maintain those positions under duress aka intensity. As the intensity of your workout increases do your positions change? When you move faster do things fall apart? When you deadlift heavier are you able to maintain those ideal positions?
I’ve got a problem. Anyone who knows me knows I can talk, but truly communicating is a struggle. When new people contact us about joining the gym, we have them come in for a consultation first. Some people find this odd. When they joined the $10 a month gym, they just signed up online and never had to talk to anybody. For some, making that first appointment is already too hard. They don’t have the time, they don’t need me to know them, they don’t want to stand out in any way. And they refuse to come in. Sometimes people even say they’re coming, and they just don’t show up. I assume this means they just aren’t ready yet.
I’ve never met a person whose tried yoga and hated it. I’m sure they exist I have just never run into one. Most of the time I hear how people have tried it and loved it, maybe they’ve not been to a class in a long time and forgot how much they enjoyed it and that conversation might spark the excitement of stepping on their mat again. Awesome! Then there are those that have always wanted to try yoga but for one reason or another have been apprehensive to try it. Maybe they feel they aren’t flexible enough, or coordinated or trying something new in a group setting makes them nervous. I understand all of that. Let’s address these fears.
CrossFit 43 North is one of the best gyms in the valley. We feel pretty safe in saying that because of the number of members that achieve the results they want. Think of the huge number of people that have gym memberships and never go or those that go for years and years but never get the results they want. Maybe you're one of those people. A good gym is effective when it delivers health, fitness and has members reaching their goals.
We've signed on for an uphill battle. We love the methodology of CrossFit and the fact that it is helpful to anyone at any stage of their life with any level of capability. The battle comes from what people think CrossFit is. Ever since 2001 people have been signing up to put their bodies to the test in this intense training program called CrossFit.
CrossFit 43 North is a safe place for people to improve their lives through fitness and nutrition. (I've written about what the means to use here.) But as the gym grows, keeping those high standards gets more and more challenging. So we've been keeping our eyes open for someone that can help us not only maintain how we currently care for our members but raise it to another level.
The first week in May I attended the CrossFit Level 2 Certificate Course. If the Level 1 course is the foundation of fitness the Level 2 course is the foundation of coaching. I was put through several practical exercises with my peers where I had to demonstrate my coaching abilities and was then critiqued by a much more experienced coach. It was nerve-racking, to say the least, but it was also very eye-opening.
Think of the last time you were stressed. Think about how you felt. Most likely you were tense and holding your breath a bit. Maybe you are currently sitting in front of your screen right now, clenched fist, tight jawed. Have you become aware of it? Good. Now take a deep breath and let all that go. Finished? Great, you just took a yoga breath, now let’s move on.
