Micki's Story

My first experience at CrossFit 43 North was a "bring a friend" workout. I decided after that workout that I would not be doing CrossFit because it was too hard. I knew that I could do it, but I didn't want to work that hard. What actually brought me in the door again was the NoK to 5K course. I was intrigued by it. I have done many races, so I wasn't intrigued by the 5K as much as I was the training. My goal was to run the 5K, and not run/walk it.

My first impression was great, but I was scared every time I came to training. Fear is a hard thing to overcome! Coach Bertha was amazing. The training was REALLY hard, but she explained things well, and pushed us. That was just what I needed. The best part of it was that Greg decided to do the training with me. Never in a million years did I think we would work out together and do a race together. It has been an amazing journey with him.

My first bright spot was the 5K race. I was able to run the entire race and got very emotional as I crossed the finish line. It was a huge accomplishment for me.

Right now I'm working on the mental part of CrossFit. I have moved beyond "what the heck am I doing" to "I can do this. It might not be pretty, but I can do it". I still wonder "what the heck am I doing" but I am more confident now and excited to see what else I can do.

So far my favorite memory is the accomplishment of doing box jumps (modified) and jumping rope. Both are so hard for me. But when I do them, I feel like I can do anything.
