Jerry is just awesome. He's been training with us for over a year now and is making constant progress. He adds so much to our family here and we're super glad he's chosen to train with us.
Where do you work? What do you do there?
I'm a CPA, desk jockey, 66 years old. Planning to retire in a few months, but right now, I'm the Chief Financial Officer (CFO) for Industrial Ventilation, Inc., in Nampa, ID, as such, I supervise all of the accounting, finance, and administrative activities. I've worked there almost 22 years now. Our customers are mostly farmers, we provide buildings and equipment for storing potatoes and onions. The company has about 100 employees and we serve customers in 25 states and internationally.
How long have you been doing CrossFit?
Since about August 2016
What is your favorite or best movement?
Running. It is simple and I've done a lot of it. For about 20 years, running was my primary fitness activity, but now I'm just doing CrossFit.
What has been your favorite workout?
I like deadlifts. It is always a challenge, but being able to move heavy weights is mentally rewarding.
What movement do you struggle with?
Snatch and clean and jerk. Both are complex movements that require a lot of good technique and power to perform well. They take lots of practice.
What workout have you struggled the most physically?
A weakness I have is with upper body strength for things like the overhead press, chin ups, push ups. (I guess pushing a pencil all day at work is not sufficient to build upper body strength).
What workout have you struggled the most mentally?
Thrusters are certainly on the list, because they so quickly fatigue the whole body and they are very demanding cardio for me too.
Why did you decide to start CrossFit?
My prior gym closed, and I had long been curious about CrossFit, so I checked it out and I love it. I was looking for a challenging workout, but I knew I also needed coaching to do the movements properly. CrossFit has both the coaching and physical challenge I wanted. The small class sizes and camaraderie are a great bonus.
What is CrossFit to you?
I love it! CrossFit helps me meet my goals of health and physical fitness so that I can live the rest of my life doing things that I want to do, play with my very active grandkids, travel, recreate and work. CrossFit has also required discipline, patience and perseverance that apply to many areas of my life in a good way.
