Learning is a life long endeavor. It’s never done, and we shouldn’t wish it to be. With each new thing we learn we become a little better version of ourselves. Whether that’s learning to use a computer, learning to listen, or learning how to squat a little better.

An ancient proverb states “Whoever loves discipline loves knowledge, but whoever hates correction is stupid.”

We don’t know everything and there is a requisite amount of humility you need to have in order to learn anything. You have to be ok with not knowing it all and realize that you can learn something from everyone you meet. Always be in search of learning more. Learn from your coaches, other gym members, your friends, and your kids. Every person on the planet can teach us something if we are only willing to listen.

In CrossFit we talk about and strive for “Virtuosity” or doing the common uncommonly well. While normally this is in the context of performing movements like the squat, or push-up. At CrossFit 43 North we think that virtuosity is something to strive for in all areas of life. How well do you perform the basics of being a person? What areas could you improve? Who could you learn from? Are you seeking out that knowledge?

Be open to and on the lookout for new sources to learn from. Read books, watch videos, go to seminars and go out to coffee with friends and listen well. You’ll be surprised what you can learn.
