Pain is truly awful. Life sometimes throws us curveballs and we get injured in an auto accident or fall on some ice and now we have pain that we haven't had before. I'm not talking about muscle soreness, that happens to all of us, especially after a hard workout. But I'm specifically talking about serious pain due to injury.
Pain is complicated and dealing with it has a lot of variables. It can also take more time than you think. Below is a great video that lays out the some of the science behind pain and how we can deal with it. One thing that we feel is important is that movement is a part of the healing process.
Just because you have pain doesn't mean you shouldn't be moving nor does it mean you can't workout.
