CrossFiters have kind of knarly hands. There's nothing you can do about it, and I kind of like it. It comes from lots of hard work with pull-ups, deadlifts, cleans, and snatches. Our hands take a beating. If you don't take care of them it can lead to torn calluses and those hurt really bad. They can even become infected and keep you from training. Some people view bloody hands as a battle wound and are proud of them. I'm all for working hard but don't see any reason that you should be tearing your hands open. Unless you're doing 100+ pull-ups, that will get you no matter how much precaution you take. My calluses usually tear off at about the 90th rep.
To stay on top of your hand care (CrossFit problem #37) you may want to invest in a callus shaver. I'd never seen on of these before but it's an amazing tool for keeping my hand calluses nocked down and out of the danger zone.
